A pressure sensitive adhesive coated on a thick soft aluminium foil with an exceptional ability to damp resonant vibrations over a wide temperature range.
These tapes are designed to meet the increasing demand for noise reduction. Based upon aluminium foil they are specifically suitable for applications where a high ratio of noise reduction to unit weight is required. Even when exposed to relatively high operating temperatures and usual aircraft solvents the long ageing adhesive retains its damping characteristics. With the added feature of a liner the tape can be die cut. Damping performance can be improved by applying multi-layers of tape thereby increasing the overall thickness of the constrained layers. The sound damping tapes perform over a relatively broad temperature range between -50°C to +30°C. These tapes are predominantly used in vibration damping applications. They are used to eliminate fatigue cracks due to vibration of skins, panels etc. Specifically the tapes are used on aircraft, cars, dishwashers and refrigerators. Additionally they are used for sealing and joining in the construction industry and as a moisture vapour barrier.
